FA president Azim wins Parliament seat


Male’, MALDIVES – Football Association of Maldives (FAM) president Ali Azim has been elected as an MP in the recently ended Maldives parliament election. There were other notable football figures, who competed in the election but most of them didn’t win their seat.

New Radiant manager Ali Waheed (Balak), similar to Azim – from opposition party DRP, also won a seat in the parliament.

However, FAM’s vice president (Hiyalee) Mohamed Rasheed narrowly defeated in the area he was competed and General Secretary Shah Ismail also failed to win the seat.

Former coach (Heena) Ahmed Saleem, who competed on behalf of ruling party MDP, also missed the seat and it was Azim who won the seat in that area.

New Radiant and national team striker Ahmed Thoriq (Tom) is another football personal competed in the election, however he too was far behind to beat ruling MDP candidate in the area he competed.

Former national team and Victory defender (Dhonbiley) Ahmed Haleem, who competed with ruling MDP’s ticket, was beaten by Ahmed Makhloof of DRP, another former football player for a short span of time.

Vyansa chairman Mohamed Wisham also failed to win the seat he competed.

Before the election, FAM president Azim said even if he wins parliament seat his dedication to football will not be diminished and he will give enough time for the development of Maldivian football.

The elected members will take oath of office on 28th of May.
