Valencia 2 - 2 VB: VB on the top

Male’, MALDIVES – Valencia with enormous internal problems upset league leaders VB sports with a deserving 2-2 draw yesterday. VB took the lead in the first half, but an energetic Valencia side came back stronger and scored twice to take the lead but in the nick of time VB scored the equalizer.

VB started their attacking early in the game and Valencia’s reserve keeper, Munaz, who stands in between the sticks for the champions, was tested early.

In the 6th minute Munaz punched Sufiyaan’s header but the ball fell into their own penalty area but skipper Jameel came to the rescue by clearing the ball.

Three minutes later Fadhikko tried from near angle but the ball missed the target by inches.

Game’s first goal came in the 28th minute when Abu picked a through ball and escaped an offside trap and sends the ball below keeper Munaz to score the opener.

Before the half ends, VB went close to double the lead but Sappe’s shot missed the target by few inches.

Valencia leveled in the 57th minute when Marceline headed Jambe’s free kick to the goal. Keeper Sinan misjudged the ball and missed it completely when Marceline had a slight touch and defender Firaz tried an overhead effort to clear the ball but the ball went too high for him to reach.

In the 79th minute Valencia took the lead from a well executed free kick from Assad. Keeper Sinan couldn’t even make a move to save the ball.

For sometimes it looked that Valencia will hold on to the slender lead but VB’s substitute Azim came to the rescue in the 89th minute. First a cross from Sappe was fisted away by keeper Munaz and then Anwar fired the ball from long range and Azim had the important touch in the penalty area to direct the ball to the top corner.

The draw kept VB two points clear at the top and Valencia confirmed fourth position with six points and superior goal difference compared to New Radiant.

After the game Valencia’s care taker boss (Binma) Abdullah Waheed said they came to win the game and they played with lot of pressure.

VB coach Laszlo Kiss congratulated Valencia for their performance and he noted that VB were without six key players.
